Discipline as defined in a dictionary starts with "a branch of instruction" and ends with "chastisement".
Discipline as chastisement or punishment is usually progressive, save in serious cases, which could lead to summary dismissal. In most cases disciplinary action will be informal, between the dealer and employee and which does not require a written record. When informal, verbal caution has not had the desired effect, or where the issue is serious, formal, written steps will be followed.
